Hanging Gardens - 6/30/08

I haven't posted an update on the hanging planters in a while...so here we go. Last time I mentioned the extreme heat was causing quite a bit of stress to the plants. Strangely, this was more prominent in one bag versus the other. With some closer inspection and expert consultation, I realized that water was not fully penetrating the entire root mass, leading to the stunted growth and wilted leaves. After soaking the entire soil/root mass with a sufficient amount of water, the plants began to almost immediately improve.

On the larger of the two plum trees I purchased this year, I was surprised to find three plums that had survived the trip from the nursery and were maturing into edible fruit. About a day before ripening, one fell causality to either a bird or squirrel. After securing the tree with proper netting, the remaining plums were allowed to fully ripen and promptly devoured by their proper owners. They were quite delicious. I look forward to next year's harvest.

I have also installed an irrigation system with accompanying timer to automate the watering process. This should alleviate future instances of unnecessary drought.

It's nice to see like minded people blogging. We just harvested our cherry tree and got about 5 quarts. Today i had a small cherry pie and some homemade strawberry ice cream. Our lettuce and other greens have been delicious as well. If you are interested swing by my blog i don't discuss food much but i think you may enjoy it anyways. I am pretty new to this and i would like to make some friends in the blogger world. Hope to see you over there:)

It is always nice to hear from the future...

Do you have any stock tips?

In all seriousness, after reading some of your posts, I'm not sure how much we are actually "like-minded", or how much I think you are "the future", but thanks for visiting.

I was referring to your interest in oil politics and the state of the world. As well as your interest in gardening. Thanks for the reply and good luck to you. Sorry you can't see how i think we are "like minded", just trying to be friendly.

For starters, I don't believe that anyone is suppressing zero point energy, that the President should be impeached or that 9/11 was a conspiracy. I guess we can agree to disagree.

Are those tomato planters "topsy turvys?" Are they really easier to deal with than planting in the ground and staking it? I've been thinking about buying a couple of them for my porch, but they seem more difficult to keep watered than tomatoes on the ground.

You are correct, they are the Plug-n-gro bag by Topsy Turvy. And you are also correct about the watering...I have had a hard time keeping things alive. Now that I have a timer/irrigation system, however, they are much improved. If you are short on space, they seem to be a great way to get a few tomatoes. If you have space...I would plant a real garden. Next year, I have larger plans.

First off let me once again mention that i like gardening and so do you. In retrospect i realize that my blog has little to do with gardening so i apologize. The gardening and interest in oil were what i was referring to when i said we were like minded. Secondly i did a quick google search and found a handful of sites that deal with zero point technology, that still does not mean it hasn't been suppressed to some extent. I mean they have known about that since the turn of the last century. Also if I'm not mistaken people have been killed in the past trying to market different technologies that would eliminate our dependency on oil. Third, our president took us to war without consent of congress. He should be impeached for that alone, but thats just what the constitution says and it's not like we follow that anymore anyways. Lastly I never said 9-11 was a conspiracy, however there are a ton of unanswered questions like why did it take norad so long to respond and why haven't they followed the money trail. Loose change final cut is a fantastic piece of work and exposes all kinds of stuff that was never covered in the 9-11 commission.

Now I do understand why most folks don't want to get involved when they hear wack jobs talking about "no planes hitting the buildings" and idiotic stuff like that. However there are huge holes in the entire official story of 9-11, and i honestly think there should be an better investigation.

Mostly i just feel like our rights are being taken away from us (patriot act one and two, military commissions act) and i like to point out why it's not necessary to loose our freedoms to fight a bogus war on terrorism. A war that will never end just like their drug war (that worked out real good didn't it?Do you know anyone who has never tried drugs?) Or their war on poverty (i live south of cleveland, one of the most poverty stricken cities in the country) My point is we can't win a war on terror.

In closing i suppose you are right. We should agree to disagree i just had to get that stuff off my chest. Thanks and take care, i honestly mean no harm, i just mean to share knowledge.

You've left me at a loss for words...I cannot bring myself to expend any more of my time debating your points...you've defended your positions quite eloquently, I'll have to let my dear readers judge for themselves.

Thanks for posting, though...we'll always have gardening.
