New Energy Site

Just saw an ad for this on TV, so I thought I'd give it a peek.

While it does seem informative, the lack of relative comparison leaves the statistics somewhat undefined in my mind.

I am going to keep reading and try to give a more critical review later.

I am also working on a critical review of the DOJ's approach to antitrust regulation of the agricultural marketplace. (i.e. how is the gov't doing regulating ag giants like Monsanto).

Interesting site...I assume it is backed by the oil companies. I'll also assume there aren't any outright lies, just positive spin in their favor. They do speak to my point of the majority ownership of oil and gas companies by middle-class mutual funds and retirement vehicles. Nice find Mr. Smith.

Case in point...the powering of 60 million cars for 60 years with 112 bbl. Not an outright lie, but a little further analysis:

Unfortunately, we use oil for more things than cars. In fact, we probably *should* only use it for things other than personal automobiles. The US currently uses approx. 20 million barrels per day in total oil consumption. So, while it may power 60 million cars for 60 years, it will only cover our real 'need' for:

112bbl/20mbl=5600 days/365days= a little over 15 years.

This is nothing to sneeze at, but there is a reason why this oil has not been claimed. It is either economically less profitable or in environmentally sensitive areas or both. It will be important to use this oil to help us transition to a non-oil based economy, not to continue to keep the price down for a few more years.

I heard the other day that Nigeria had begun to tap into fields in the Gulf of Mexico somewhere. If that is happening, we better get on it pronto. Remember, however, that I base most of my foreign policy decisions on my extensive experience playing Civ III. Our ironclads will destroy their triremes.

Drainage! Drainage, Eli, you boy. Drained dry. I'm so sorry. Here, if you have a milkshake, and I have a milkshake, and I have a straw. There it is, that's a straw, you see? You watching?. And my straw reaches acroooooooss the room, and starts to drink your milkshake... I... drink... your... milkshake!

Sounds like Nigeria is starting to drink OUR milkshake.
